Is porn worse than shilling for developers?

It’s taken us a little while to finally comment on today’s Matier & Ross scoop on four Planning Department employees being recommended for dismissal for surfing porn at work, mostly because we can’t stop laughing about it.

Of all the things that Zoning Administrator Larry Badiner could have gone down for, watching porn at work was pretty low on our long list. A Guardian source that closely watches the Planning Department said many people thought his overly cozy relationship with developers or some revelation of what's behind it would eventually drag him down, but not this.

Badiner has long been the best friend that big developers have in the Planning Department, someone who not been shy about pushing their interests or lunching at tables with men in expensive suits in pricey restaurants. And to go down for occasionally clicking by Fleshbot is like Al Capone going to prison for tax evasion.

Next time your HR person comes back from a labor law class have them explain to you sexual harassment laws and the lawsuit lottery that democrat lawyers love so much.

I could never understand why

I could never understand why heads didn't roll over the really huge screw-ups that occurred while Badiner was ZA. He signed off on all the fake live/work lofts, which were all built without paying the fees necessary for infrastructure such as parks and schools---now that the lofts are 99% "live" only those people are crying for that infrastructure, Badiner also authored the "redefinition" of "office-space" so that the dot-com businesses could pop-up in residential areas in the Mission displacing whole communities.

He got those lectures, and seminars, and procedures. In fact, he was responsible for having them implemented in the Neighborhood Planning division. But does this really come as a surprise. He was investigated by HR for harassing planner Angellica Chiong right before he became ZA. She left when it became clear the good-old-boy lobbyists were going to back him as ZA. His intolerence and hubris were of no concern to them. And did anybody mention he got his job after the former ZA refused to cave in to lobbyists quid pro quos with Willie Brown and the next two planners in line--Susanna Montana and Larry McDonald--refused the position? Larry was backed by the lobbyists who were pushing Sutro Tower approval and kept his job by doing everything they wanted him to do. What goes around, Larry....

I'll bet Angelica Chiong saw this coming. Before Badiner became Zoning Administrator he was investigated by the HR people for harassing her. She finally left the department when it was clear he was going to be promoted to ZA anyway. The good-old-boy network just let it go.... The old-timers there know that he got his job because the former ZA refused to cave in to developers quid pro quos with Willie Brown. After that, the next in line for that job--Larry McDonald and Suzanna Montana--(to their credit) refused the position. Badiner jumped up (backed by the lobbyists pushing Sutro Tower approvals), making it obvious he'd do anything. AND HE DID. Now his developer buddies are undoubtedly pressuring Gavin to keep him on. Don't let them get away with it.... Badiner has to go.
